Texas A&M’s Blaum hits ultimate walk-off slam

June 3rd, 2019

On Sunday, Texas A&M second baseman Bryce Blaum delivered the type of hit that kids dream about when playing baseball in the backyard.

With the Aggies trailing West Virginia by three in an elimination game in the NCAA Regionals, Blaum stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. After working the count full, he crushed a pitch over the left-center-field wall for an ultimate walk-off grand slam, giving Texas A&M an 11-10 victory.

Making the hit all the more improbable is the fact that it handed West Virginia a rare walk-off loss in its own home stadium. Though West Virginia is the host for the Morgantown Regional, Texas A&M was the designated home team for Sunday's elimination game.

Blaum's grand slam was the second of the game for the Aggies, and finished off an incredible comeback with their season on the line. Texas A&M trailed 9-1 in the seventh inning before scoring six runs in the frame, capped by a Logan Foster grand slam that cut the deficit to 9-7.

West Virginia pushed the lead back to three entering the bottom of the ninth, setting the stage for Blaum's heroics.

His full-count, two-out grand slam eliminated the top-seeded Mountaineers, and set up a showdown with Duke on Sunday night. Texas A&M will need to beat Duke twice in order to advance from the Morgantown Regional.
