Sox add OF Selsky as NRI to Spring Training
BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox today added outfielder Steve Selsky to the team's 2018 Spring Training roster as a non-roster invitee.
President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
The Red Sox have now invited a total of 16 players to Major League Spring Training camp as non-roster invitees.
Selsky, 28, made his first career Opening Day roster last season in his first year in the Red Sox organization, having been claimed off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds on January 25, 2017. The right-handed hitter appeared in eight major league games and went 1-for-9 with a double, making his lone start on April 9 at Detroit in center field. He hit .215 (64-for-297) with 11 home runs in 79 games with Triple-A Pawtucket, making 58 starts in the outfield and 14 at first base. Selsky made his major league debut with Cincinnati in 2016, appearing in 24 games and batting .314 (16-for-51) with two home runs. Selected by the Reds in the 33rd round of the 2011 June Draft, he has batted .284 (594-for-2,093) with a .364 on-base percentage in 616 career minor league games, totaling 121 doubles, 15 triples, 62 home runs, and 38 stolen bases.
