Piscotty on COVID-19 IL; 3 on restricted list
The A’s made a series of roster moves Friday, placing outfielder Stephen Piscotty on the COVID-19 injured list and placing left-handed pitchers A.J. Puk and Kirby Snead and catcher Austin Allen on the restricted list.
To replace them on the active roster, Oakland added left-hander Zach Logue (the A’s No. 22 prospect, per MLB Pipeline), right-hander Ryan Castellani, catcher Christian Bethancourt and infielder Drew Jackson as substitute players. The A’s also announced Friday that outfielder Luis Barrera has been outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas after clearing waivers.
The A’s didn’t indicate why Puk, Snead and Allen were placed on the restricted list ahead of the team’s weekend series against the Blue Jays in Toronto. Prior to the start of the 2022 season, Canada’s restrictions on allowing unvaccinated individuals into the country led MLB and the MLB Players Association to agree to permissible roster modifications for games in Toronto.
Logue was one of four players the A’s acquired from the Blue Jays in the Matt Chapman trade last month. He’s made two starts for Triple-A Las Vegas this season and owns a 5.40 ERA in 6 2/3 innings. The left-hander has posted a career 3.46 ERA in five Minor League seasons.
Castellani, Bethancourt and Jackson were non-roster invitees with Oakland during Spring Training. All three have been playing for Las Vegas as well.
