NEW YORK -- The Steinbrenner family intends to continue owning the New York Yankees franchise for "eternity," managing general partner and vice chairperson Jennifer Steinbrenner Swindal told the New York Post.
"We're all in," Swindal said. "I hope we own the team for eternity. You never know what life will bring, but we're in it for the long haul."
Swindal's father, George Steinbrenner, headed a group that purchased the franchise from CBS in 1973 for approximately $10 million. Last year, Forbes estimated the Yankees to be worth $3.4 billion.
Managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner has repeatedly stated that the family has no plans to sell.
Hank Steinbrenner and Jessica Steinbrenner also hold key titles in the team hierarchy, and they have long-term plans in the works to pass the team on for generations to come; Jennifer's son, Stephen Swindal Jr., is working in the front office as a coordinator of baseball operations.
"We're already involved with the next generation," Swindal said. "Initially, we were trying to figure out how we were all going to handle things, and when my father got sick, all four of us [siblings] went to work. Hal has been a leader and he's been great."
Swindal is beginning her ninth full season in her current position. She also serves as the president of the New York Yankees Foundation and the New York Yankees Tampa Foundation, overseeing numerous local, regional and national outreach efforts.
