St. Louis to host potential NL Central tiebreaker
If there is a Game 163 this year, meet me in St. Louis.
Major League Baseball announced on Saturday that in the event a National League Central tiebreaker game is necessary between the Cardinals and Brewers, it will be played in St. Louis on Monday at 3:09 p.m ET on ESPN. The Cardinals get the hosting nod because they won the regular-season series vs. the Brewers, 10-9.
The Cardinals entered Sunday with a one-game lead over the Brewers in the division, though both teams have clinched postseason berths. If a tiebreaker game is necessary, the winner will face the Braves in the NL Division Series, which begins Thursday, while the loser will face the Nationals in the Wild Card Game on Tuesday.
Milwaukee won a Game 163 tiebreaker against the Cubs for the 2018 NL Central title.
