CHICAGO -- and the A’s are trying to power their way to a strong finish to the 2024 season. On Tuesday, the Oakland catcher led the way with his bat.

Langeliers crushed a pair of home runs in the A’s 4-3 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field, recording his fifth career multi-homer game and third this season, as Oakland evened the series on the North Side. The win also snapped the A's three-game losing streak, which was their longest since they dropped five straight from June 22-26.

Closer Mason Miller secured the win to record his 26th save this season, which is tied with Andrew Bailey (2009) for the Oakland A’s rookie saves record.

Langeliers got the A’s on the board in the first inning, when he crushed a two-run homer off of Cubs starter Jordan Wicks. It went a Statcast-projected 408 feet and had a 109.4 mph exit velocity. In the fifth, Langeliers hit a solo shot, which went a projected 418 feet and had a 107.7 mph exit velocity.

After recording a 15-9 record in July and a 14-12 record in August, the A’s are off to a 7-9 start in September. They are looking to record three straight winning months for the first time since April-June 2021, and September is arguably the biggest challenge yet. Nineteen of the A’s 25 games this month are against teams competing for the postseason.
