JUPITER, Fla. -- On the eve of Spring Training workouts beginning, the Marlins made a late offseason move to help bolster the bullpen.
The club reached agreement with free agent right-hander Sergio Romo on a one-year, $2.5 million contract, pending a physical, a source told MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez.

The club has yet to confirm the report.
But coming to terms with a veteran reliever is not unexpected.
Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said at FanFest on Saturday that the club was looking to bring in another experienced reliever before the start of Spring Training.
Workouts for pitchers and catchers begin on Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET at the Roger Dean Stadium complex.
Romo fits what the Marlins are seeking, an established reliever who has pitched in high-leverage situations, as well as closed out games.
The Marlins haven't completely settled on a closer. Drew Steckenrider and left-hander Adam Conley are expected to share the role, perhaps based on matchups. And hard-throwing Tayron Guerrero is a setup option.
"I think a veteran bullpen piece," Hill said of the team's remaining need on Saturday. "Just to help Steck and Conley and Guerrero at the back end is something we're exploring right now."
Romo, 35, is an 11-year veteran who broke in with the Giants in 2008. He has a 38-31 career record with a 2.86 ERA and 109 saves.
With the Rays last year, Romo appeared in 73 games and made five starts as an "opener." He posted a 4.14 ERA with 75 strikeouts in 67 1/3 innings, along with 25 saves.
