Yanks-Tigers rained out Wednesday; DH today
DETROIT -- One night after the Tigers and Yankees combined for 23 runs, they did no hitting Wednesday night. Severe weather in the area postponed their scheduled game, resulting in a Thursday afternoon doubleheader.
First pitch Thursday is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET. The second game will begin approximately 30 minutes after the first game ends. Tickets for Thursday's originally scheduled game will be honored for both contests. Tickets for Wednesday's postponement can be exchanged for any Tigers home game in the next 12 months except for the 2020 home opener on March 30.
The summer-like heat wave that hit Michigan on Wednesday resulted in a line of storms that crossed the area in the late afternoon and continuing into evening. Though the rain stopped shortly before first pitch, it picked up again soon after along with lightning.
It marked the sixth postponement of the season for the Tigers, but the first at Comerica Park since April 20. With the Yankees traveling to Toronto later Thursday, the teams will play a straight doubleheader.
Matthew Boyd, who was scheduled to start Wednesday for the Tigers, will start game 1 opposite J.A. Happ, the Yankees' originally scheduled starter for Thursday. CC Sabathia, who was set to return to New York's rotation Wednesday, will start Game 2 in a tandem outing with Domingo German. Spencer Turnbull will start opposite Sabathia.
