Luis Gil, the Yankees' No. 5 prospect, teamed with relievers Reggie McClain and Stephen Ridings on a combined no-hitter for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre against Rochester on Wednesday night.

It marked the first no-hitter for a Yankees Triple-A affiliate since May 20, 2004, when Chuck Tiffany threw one for Columbus. Jeremy Cummings tossed a no-no for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2006, the last year the team was a Phillies affiliate.

The performance represents the most dominant showing for Gil in seven starts since he moved from Double-A Somerset to Triple-A. The 23-year-old right-hander struck out nine batters with two walks over six hitless innings, throwing 84 pitches, before handing the ball to the bullpen. McClain (2 IP) and Ridings (1 IP) finished off the no-no.

Gil joined the Yankees in the 2018 trade that sent outfielder Jake Cave to the Twins. In his first 13 starts this season, Gil posted a 3.69 ERA with 77 strikeouts and 30 walks in 53 2/3 innings, although he had a 5.09 ERA in his first six games with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
