NEW YORK -- Mets general manager Sandy Alderson addressed the media at Citi Field on Friday ahead of a six-game homestand, and he made it very clear that if improvements are not made in the upcoming weeks, the Mets could very well be sellers at the non-waiver Trade Deadline.
"There are few teams that are going to be buyers, there are few teams that are already sellers and there are a bunch of teams in the middle." Alderson said. "I would put us in the middle."
The Mets entered Friday 10 games under .500, and they've 4-15 in their last 19 games.
"We need to see some improvement in our win-loss record almost immediately," Alderson said.
When asked about the possibility of trading Jacob deGrom or Noah Syndergaard, Alderson said the franchise knows what they have with the two aces, but if someone came to them and offered an overwhelming haul of prospects, it might be something they would have to consider.
deGrom holds a MLB-best 1.51 ERA, which is the lowest ERA held by a Mets pitcher after 15 starts in franchise history, and Syndergaard remains on the disabled list with a strained ligament in his right index finger.
"I know how we view him and where he will be once we get him back and I know how the rest of baseball views him," Alderson said of Syndergaard. "For that reason I say I know what we have, but at the same time you never say never."

On Thursday, Todd Frazier voiced his opinion that he is not in favor of a rebuild for this team.
"I'm a fan of guys that have been there before, I'm a fan of the pitching staff we have. I'm a fan of the guys we have coming up and the guys we've been playing with. It's just a matter of winning games," Frazier said. "You don't trade guys like Jacob deGrom or Noah Syndergaard or Zack Wheeler. Those are top of the line pitchers that you want on your squad for the rest of their careers, and eventually things will turn for the hitters and we'll get more wins for them and things will happen."
In response to Frazier's comments, Alderson said in his news conference that the opinions of players and fans have in some ways affected the decision making of the franchise: "Doesn't mean that we always come out consistent with how those opinions are expressed, but to say that they aren't a factor I think would be to sort of ignore the obvious."
Perhaps in keeping with the dictum of improvement before the Deadline, the Mets made numerous roster moves in the past 24 hours. On Thursday, the Mets optioned right-handers Paul Sewald and Chris Flexen to Triple-A Las Vegas. On Friday the corresponding move was announced; the contracts of righty Drew Smith and outfielder Kevin Kaczmarski were selected from Las Vegas.
The Mets also designated reliever Hansel Robles for assignment and transferred reliever AJ Ramos to the 60-day disabled list to make room on the 40-man roster.
