Royals announce new deal with Peralta
KANSAS CITY -- The Royals announced a new one-year deal with closer Wily Peralta on Wednesday that includes a mutual option for 2020.
Peralta had a team option for $3 million in 2019, but the Royals restructured his deal as follows: Peralta will get a base salary of $2.25 million for '19, plus a $7 million mutual option in '20 with a $1 million buyout.
In addition, Peralta could earn close to $1 million in performance bonuses if he finishes 55 games in 2019. Those salary numbers are according to a source as, per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Peralta, 29, finished 30 games last season for the Royals. Peralta took over the closer's role in late June shortly after Kelvin Herrera was traded to the Nationals.
Peralta went 14-for-14 in save opportunities and finished the season with a 3.67 ERA.
• Right-hander Nate Karns rejected an outright assignment to Triple-A Omaha and elected free agency. Also, left-hander Jerry Vasto was claimed off outright waivers by the Cubs. The Royals' 40-man roster now stands at 37.
