KANSAS CITY – The Royals’ watercooler splash they feature after each win at Kauffman Stadium got an upgrade this past week.

After the Royals' 8-4 win on Wednesday, Bally Sports Kansas City’s Joel Goldberg was conducting the on-field postgame interview with both Vinnie Pasquantino and Bobby Witt Jr. featured as players of the game. All of a sudden, a massive QuikTrip cup emerged from the dugout, carried by Salvador Perez and MJ Melendez.

What was first dubbed as the Salvy Splash has now turned into the QuikTrip Splash.

“I don’t really know what it is,” Melendez said. “I still don’t really know. It just came through the other day, and we were like, ‘We have to win to use this thing.’”

In the spring, the Royals introduced QuikTrip as their jersey patch sponsor, and Pasquantino took to social media to welcome QuikTrip into the Royal family. This was QT’s response:

Six months later, the photoshopped image became reality, thanks to some persistent people both with the Royals and QuikTrip. The cooler was introduced in Kansas City's clubhouse before the game Wednesday, and it appeared in the dugout full of ice and water after the win. The QT cup features all of the same logos you’d see if you stopped by the gas station for a fountain drink.

It’s much bigger than the regular watercooler the Royals use, and with no handles on the side, carrying it to the field is a two-person job.

“It was heavier than I thought,” Witt said after splashing duties on Saturday. “We had to take some water out.”

It is a real cooler, made of hard plastic and insulated to keep whatever is inside cold.

“Now I need to figure out how to get one more myself, because I think that thing would look great in my backyard on a Sunday afternoon,” Pasquantino said. “It’s one of the best marketing things I’ve ever seen.”

The watercooler dousing has become a signature part of wins at Kauffman Stadium. Bringing out a life-sized QuikTrip cup makes it all the better.

“It’s ingrained here,” Pasquantino said. “We love it. Mainly because we use it when we win. And we like winning.”
