BALTIMORE -- It’ll be double the fun on Mother’s Day.

Rain washed away the Orioles’ series opener against the Royals at Camden Yards on Friday, and the game will be made up on Sunday as a traditional (single-admission) doubleheader starting at 1:35 p.m. ET. Tickets for Sunday’s originally scheduled game will be honored for both games of the twin bill; those purchased for Friday will need to be exchanged for Sunday or a future game.

The start time for Game 2 on Sunday will be dependent on the finish of Game 1.

For the Orioles, the washed-away game on Friday will push back their pitching plans; Jordan Lyles will now start Saturday’s game and a combination of Tyler Wells and Bruce Zimmermann will start on Sunday, order to be determined.

Carlos Hernández will start for the Royals on Saturday, with Daniel Lynch and Zack Greinke going on Sunday.

Doubleheaders this season have returned to nine-inning affairs after being reduced to seven innings in 2020 and ’21. Teams will be permitted to carry a 27th man for the doubleheader.

The Orioles did make a little news prior to Friday’s postponement, formally activating left-hander Logan Allen onto their active roster after claiming him from Cleveland the day prior. Right-hander Travis Lakins Sr. was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk as the corresponding move.
