Royals rained out, to play split twin bill Wednesday vs. Cards
ST. LOUIS -- Tuesday’s series opener against the Cardinals at Busch Stadium was postponed due to rain in the St. Louis area throughout Tuesday night.
It’ll be made up as part of a split doubleheader Wednesday, with Game 1 beginning at 12:45 p.m. CT and Game 2 beginning at 6:45 p.m. as originally scheduled. Gates open at 11:15 a.m. for the first game and 5:15 p.m. for the nightcap.
Tickets for Tuesday’s postponed game will be valid for Game 1 of Wednesday’s doubleheader. Paid ticket holders will also receive a voucher redeemable for a future 2024 Monday-Thursday regular-season game.
The Royals were scheduled to have righties Michael Wacha and Alec Marsh start Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, but will switch up the order for the twin bill: Marsh will take Game 1 on Wednesday, and Wacha will start Game 2.
Both the Royals and Cardinals will be able to recall a 27th man on the roster for Wednesday’s doubleheader. That player accrues one day of MLB service time and is returned to the Minor Leagues following the completion of the doubleheader.
Tuesday marks a second consecutive day off for the Royals following Monday’s team off-day. They also have one scheduled for Thursday as they travel to Boston for a three-game set against the Red Sox -- the team the Royals are chasing in the American League Wild Card standings, 1 1/2 games back entering Tuesday’s slate -- to finish out the first half of the season before the All-Star break.
