NEW YORK -- It looks as though the Phillies are going to be without outfielder Roman Quinn for an extended period of time, as he sustained a strained right groin while running the bases during the Phillies’ 6-0 victory over the Mets on Wednesday night.

With runners on first and third in the eighth inning, Quinn connected on a bunt single that scored Cesar Hernandez. After he reached second base on a wild pitch by Mets right-hander Robert Gsellman, he was taken out of the game.

Quinn has battled injuries throughout his career, most recently a strained right oblique in Spring Training.

“I ran out there and I couldn’t believe it,” manager Gabe Kapler said. “He worked so hard to get back. I really feel for Roman. It’s nothing he is doing. It’s just that his body is not responding. We keep thinking about different ways that we could keep him healthy and on the field. All he wants to do is get going and stay going.”
