Rockies shocked by Boulder tragedy
Rockies manager Bud Black expressed shock and condolences on Tuesday, a day after 10 were killed in a mass shooting at a King Soopers grocery store in Boulder, Colo.
“We heard the news yesterday, down here in Scottsdale after our game, and all of us were shocked,” Black said. “Down here in Arizona, us Rockies -- players, coaches, staff, front office -- our thoughts and prayers are with everybody up in Boulder, to the victims and their families. What a tragedy. We're thinking about everybody.”
The Athletics arranged for a moment of silence before their game against the Rockies on Tuesday in Mesa, Ariz.
“It's just sad,” Athletics manager Bob Melvin said. “You see way too much of this now. Just too much of it goes on these days and, at some point in time, we need this to stop, which is pretty obvious. But it's sad.
“It hits everybody hard, and you never get immune to something like that, even though you see quite a bit of it these days."
The Rockies tweeted a statement on Monday night, one that several players reposted on their social media accounts.
Pitcher Germán Márquez, who pitched in Monday’s game against the Rangers, which was in progress as news of the shootings broke, also tweeted his reaction.
