Rox-Mets postponed Wed.; twin bill today
NEW YORK -- With heavy precipitation in the forecast throughout Wednesday evening at Citi Field, the Mets and Rockies postponed their scheduled game due to rain. The teams will make up the contest in a single-admission doubleheader beginning at 12:10 p.m. ET on Thursday.
Both games will be seven innings, with the second beginning approximately 30 minutes after the first.
Although skies were clear enough at Citi Field for both teams to take batting practice on Wednesday afternoon, the forecast was due to worsen significantly by 8 p.m. As such, the Mets postponed the game about 40 minutes before its 7:10 p.m. ET scheduled first pitch.
In so doing, the Mets avoided the situation that unfolded in a game against the Marlins earlier this year, when Marcus Stroman started and faced just two batters before rain grew too heavy for the teams to continue. That became a suspended game that will be made up later this season.
Stroman was again the scheduled starter for Wednesday’s game; he will start Game 1 of the doubleheader, followed by Joey Lucchesi in Game 2. The Mets have an open spot in their rotation after that game, which could go to Taijuan Walker on Friday if he is ready to come off the injured list at that time. Otherwise, the Mets -- with a jammed 40-man roster -- are likely to proceed with a bullpen game.
The Mets and Rockies will be playing their second doubleheader of the season, after having a game snowed out in Denver in April. They split the first doubleheader at Coors Field.
Fans with tickets to Wednesday’s postponed game cannot use them for Thursday’s doubleheader. Only those with tickets to Thursday’s originally scheduled 12:10 p.m. ET game will be allowed to enter Citi Field. Those with Wednesday tickets may exchange them for a future game, pending availability. (More information is available here.)
