On Sept. 21, 2001, the Mets hosted the Braves in the midst of a postseason race, but the standings were the last thing on anyone’s mind. The game marked the first major sporting event in New York after the 9/11 terror attacks, and the emotional night, capped by Mets catcher Mike Piazza's iconic go-ahead homer in the bottom of the eighth inning, is credited in part with helping the city and the nation start the healing process.

As America commemorates 20 years since the attacks, MLB Network has gathered six New York area natives who participated in the memorable game -- former Major Leaguers Mark DeRosa (Carlstadt, N.J.), John Franco (Brooklyn), Steve Karsay (Queens), Al Leiter (Toms River, N.J.), Dave Martinez (Manhattan) and Jason Marquis (Staten Island) -- to relive the night and reflect on its magnitude.

“Remembering the Game for New York,” a new MLB Network Presents program, will premiere tonight at 10 ET on MLB Network, and it will air again on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. ET.

In addition to breaking down each aspect of the game, the six former Major Leaguers will discuss growing up in the area and their personal connections to the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001.

After the debut of “Remember the Game for New York” tonight, MLB Network will rebroadcast Mets vs. Braves from Sept. 21, 2001.
