DENVER -- The Rockies signed former All-Star righty reliever AJ Ramos and assigned him to their alternate training camp, the club announced Monday.

Ramos, who turns 34 on Sept. 20, has not pitched since 2018, when he was 2-2 with a 6.41 ERA with the Mets before undergoing right shoulder surgery. He has attempted comebacks with the Dodgers and the Cubs. He was released by the Cubs on Thursday.

Ramos was at his best with the Marlins from 2012-17, when he posted a 2.78 ERA in 325 appearances and accumulated 92 saves. He was an All-Star in ’16, when he finished with 40 saves.

The Rockies have been trying to improve the quality and depth of a bullpen that lost Scott Oberg for the season with recurring blood clots and has been missing Wade Davis since the season’s first week because of a right rotator cuff strain. Righty Mychal Givens was acquired from the Orioles at the Trade Deadline to shore up the late relief.

The Rockies also claimed righty Jesus Tinoco off waivers from the Marlins, after trading him there earlier this season. Tinoco debuted with the Rockies last season.
