Jose Siri's name now stands alone in the record books.
With a base hit in the top of the eighth inning of Class A Dayton's loss to Fort Wayne, Siri extended his hitting streak to 36 games and became the owner of both the longest hitting streak in the 63-year history of the Midwest League and in all of Minor League Baseball so far this season.

The Reds' No. 24 prospect eclipsed a 40-year-old record held by Tony Toups of Waterloo with the one-out single. Toups, who played three seasons in the Indians' organization, hit a career-best .285 in 133 games in 1977.

"Obviously, congratulations are in order, and hopefully good times will come for him in his future," Toups told MiLB.com. "It feels good to have your name in the record books and have something to look back on. The plaque in my office will stay there ... but like many people say, record are made to be broken."
Siri had struck out in his first three at-bats of the game and was down 0-2 during his at-bat in the eighth. However, Siri fouled off a couple of pitches before coming through with a base hit to left field.
"This means a lot to me, I am very happy," Siri told MiLB.com. "When the count got to 0-2, all I was thinking about was letting the ball get to me and not picking up my foot and just driving the ball somewhere."

It wasn't the first time the 22-year-old has had his streak in jeopardy, as he has come up with a hit in his final at-bat on six occasions, including a trio of ninth-inning hits. There was also the June 26 contest where Siri came in as a pinch-hitter, but was intentionally walked in his only plate appearance.
Siri began his streak with a 4-for-6 performance on June 22 and has posted 14 multihit games during the stretch.
Siri, who hit .344 in July, is hitting .297 through 97 games. He has also hit a career-high 19 homers, 13 of which came during the streak.
