Aguiar, who allowed seven earned runs in four-plus innings in his last start against the Braves, was placed on the injured list on Tuesday, ending his season.

Interim manager Freddie Benavides said that Aguiar, the Reds’ No. 11 prospect, first felt the injury in a side session he threw after his start. Aguiar didn’t travel with the team to Cleveland on Monday.

Gibaut, who had been on the injured list with a right forearm strain, had missed all of the season after throwing 75 2/3 innings in 2023.

Martini, who had surgery on July 9 to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament inside his thumb, began a rehab assignment on Sept. 14, which led to some speculation that he’d be able to return to the Reds’ roster before the end of the regular season.

Instead, he’ll head down to the Arizona Complex League, where he’ll get some work to prepare for the 2025 season. Williamson was transferred to the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move.

LHP (left shoulder strain)
Expected return: 2025
Then-manager David Bell confirmed that Abbott will not return this season but will continue his throwing program on Sept. 17.

“He’s more on the path of not coming back and pitching a game for us this year,” Bell said. “He’s continuing to the throw, more to the point of having a healthy offseason so he’s good to go for that.”

Abbott threw his second side bullpen session on Sept. 17 and was scheduled to have one more before moving on to facing hitters in live batting practice. (Last updated: Sept. 24)

LHP (left middle finger sprain)
Expected return: 2025
Lodolo, who went on the injured list on Aug. 27, is not going to return to pitch again this season, then-manager David Bell said on Sept. 17. There has been no setback, but Bell noted the club wanted to make sure Lodolo’s finger is fully healed so “it doesn’t turn into a surgery situation.” The left-hander is still playing catch, however. 1B/DH (fractured left big toe)
Expected return: 2025
Candelario, who has not played since Aug. 19 after being hit by a pitch the previous game, is unlikely to return and finish his first season with Cincinnati.

LHP (left shoulder impingement)
Expected return: 2025
The Reds are shutting Moll down for the season so that he can focus on offseason treatments. The southpaw has been dealing with the shoulder injury since mid-June, but it worsened on Sept. 6, when it started to hurt while he was warming up in the bullpen. Though Moll felt well enough to enter a Sept. 7 game against the Mets, he did not retire any of the three batters he faced before landing on the IL the following day. (Last updated: Sept. 21)

60-DAY IL

LHP (left UCL tear)
Estimated return: Maybe 2025
An MRI exam on Sept. 18 revealed a complete tear of Williamson’s ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. A surgery date hasn’t been set, but the normal timeline likely could cost him much of the 2025 season, if not all of it. The Reds moved him to the 60-day IL on Sept. 24 in a procedural move to activate Nick Martini. (Last updated: Sept. 24)

2B (left shoulder surgery)

McLain has resumed swinging a bat, but he has all but been ruled out for returning this season.

“I just think, realistically, it’s probably not going to happen,” then-manager David Bell said on Sept. 13, while also noting that it wasn’t an official decision yet.

McLain did not end up receiving injections for persistent soreness in his side from a ribcage stress reaction and is now pain-free. He has been trying to come back from March surgery that repaired the labrum and cartilage damage in his shoulder. (Last updated: Sept. 24)
