Injuries & Moves: Dunn recalled; progress for Lodolo

July 3: OF recalled from Triple-A Louisville; INF/OF Levi Jordan optioned to Louisville
Dunn -- Cincinnati's No. 10 prospect per MLB Pipeline -- is back for his second big league stint this season after he was up from June 4-12. He was 1-for-10 in his seven games with the Reds.

10-DAY/15-DAY IL

LHP (left finger blister)
Estimated return: July 9
Lodolo threw 20 pitches to hitters in a live batting practice session on July 3 at Yankee Stadium, and all was considered to have gone well. He is expected to make one more side bullpen session before it’s determined if he will be ready for activation to start. But manager David Bell felt that Lodolo was on track to be ready by July 9. CF (right hamstring strain)
Estimated return: Mid-July
Friedl was injured making a diving catch vs. the Pirates on June 17, but he went on the IL on June 24 after trying to play through it and then having an MRI exam. He was instructed to rest for at least two weeks, after which he will undergo follow-up tests. This is Friedl’s third different stint on the IL this season. (Last updated: June 24)

60-DAY IL

RHP (right lat strain)
Estimated return: Late July/early August
Pagán, who was transferred to the 60-day IL on June 27, underwent a new scan on June 24 to check his healing progress. The right-hander said on June 25 that it went “about as good as I could have hoped for.” However, he noted there was still a little inflammation left in the lat. Pagán was expected to begin playing catch on July 2, with his progression taking most of the month before he returns. (Last updated: July 3)

RHP (right forearm strain)
Expected return: Later in 2024
Gibaut has started a throwing program at the team’s complex in Goodyear, Ariz., with reports saying he is progressing well. He underwent surgery on May 9 to relieve a compression in a forearm nerve -- called the anterior interosseous nerve or AIN. (Last updated: July 2)

1B (right hand fracture)
Expected return: Possibly postseason
Encarnacion-Strand, who was diagnosed with a right ulnar styloid fracture on the inside of his hand near his wrist on May 8, also has ligament damage in the same area. He is scheduled to have surgery on July 11. With a recovery time expected to last three months, that likely means the first baseman won’t return for the rest of the regular season. 2B (left shoulder surgery)

McLain’s most recent visit with his surgeon went well and he was “exactly where he wants to be,” manager David Bell said on June 23. However, no timelines were revealed for a target return date or for McLain’s progressions. Six weeks after his late March shoulder surgery, he was cleared to resume throwing and running. He has not been cleared yet to swing a bat. (Last updated: June 23)

Diagnosed with a Bennett lesion in his shoulder, one option for Williamson was season-ending surgery to repair it. After meeting with a specialist, though, he went the non-surgical route and received injections on his left shoulder. He has been told not to throw for at least three weeks.

Williamson had his rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville halted on June 6 because of discomfort in his shoulder, and he has been out of big league action since Spring Training. Williamson is expected begin throwing on July 4, per manager David Bell. (Last updated: June 18)

Arroyo, who is ranked by MLB Pipeline as Cincinnati’s No. 3 prospect and No. 55 overall, is out for the season after having surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder during Spring Training. In a March 13 Cactus League game vs. the Giants, the 20-year-old was injured diving back to first base during a pick-off throw. (Last updated: May 17)

Antone was moved to the 60-day IL on April 19 after he had right elbow and arm surgery on April 12 that repaired tears in his ulnar collateral ligament and flexor mass tendon. It was performed in Cincinnati by team orthopedic surgeon Dr. Timothy Kremchek. Antone, 30, has a 2.47 ERA over 45 big league games since 2020. (Last updated: April 19)
