Workman received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his pitching arm on April 15 in the hopes of avoiding surgery.
Workman started the year with Triple-A Pawtucket, but he had his option reversed when he was moved to the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow strain.
In 19 games (15 starts) last season, Workman went 1-10 with a 5.17 ERA.
