Rays, Phils benches clear after Castellanos hit by pitch

Tensions flared late in the Phillies' 9-4 win over the Rays on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park, with both benches clearing after Nick Castellanos was hit by a pitch in the eighth inning. Tampa Bay pitcher Edwin Uceta, who hit Castellanos in the back, was ejected from the game.

Uceta had given up a home run to Trea Turner, the shortstop's second of the game that padded Philadelphia's lead, and -- after giving up a double to Bryce Harper in the next at-bat -- Uceta hit Castellanos. That caused immediate ire from Castellanos, who pointed at the pitcher as the umpire got in between them.

The situation escalated when Harper started jawing at Uceta from second base. Both benches and bullpens then cleared and after calm was quickly restored, the umpires conferred and decided to toss Uceta.
