BALTIMORE -- The Rays made a roster move after dropping both ends of a day-night doubleheader on Saturday against the Orioles.
Right-hander Tyler Sturdevant was optioned to Triple-A Durham after an 8-6 loss in the nightcap in order to make room for right-hander Ryan Webb, who is returning from the disabled list.
Sturdevant pitched in the first game Saturday and allowed three earned runs on five hits in two innings. He is 0-1 with a 4.80 ERA in 13 games for the Rays.
Webb went on the DL on May 30 with a right pectoral strain. He is 0-0 with a 3.31 ERA in 17 games for the Rays this season.
"He's ready to pitch," said Rays manager Kevin Cash before Sunday's series finale against the Orioles. "We're in a position right now where we're kind of all hands on deck. We have some guys that have been used pretty heavily. Hopefully, he can get his ground ball pitch and sinker going and we can turn some double plays for him.
"Some guys are scuffling. We're going to look to him to see if he can get some big outs for us."
Webb made four rehab starts before returning.
"The Rays and the staff did a great job making sure I was eased back in," Webb said. "I took the time off from throwing and then built back up to throwing.
"I was ready to come back after the third [rehab appearance], but a fourth game, a little extra, can't hurt. I feel well-strengthened and ready to go."
