ST. PETERSBURG -- The Rays claimed Micah Johnson off waivers from the Giants on Monday afternoon.
Adding the infielder/outfielder brings a player with positional flexibility to the team. It also moves the Rays' 40-man roster to its full capacity.

The 26-year-old Johnson, who hits from the left side, has spent parts of three seasons in the Major Leagues with the White Sox, Dodgers and Braves, totaling 36 games (32 starts) at second base and four games (one start) in left field.
Johnson started the 2017 season on the disabled list following surgery to repair a fractured left wrist before hitting .295/.386/.396 in 45 Minor League games. He went on to appear in 18 games (one start) across three stints with Atlanta, where he was used eight times as a pinch-runner, eight times as a pinch-hitter and once as a defensive replacement.
Since the conclusion of the regular season, Johnson has been claimed off waivers by the Reds, Giants and Rays.
Johnson has hit .292/.359/.412 with 101 doubles, 35 triples, 30 home runs, 218 RBIs and 190 stolen bases in 550 games across six Minor League seasons. He was selected by the White Sox in the ninth round of the 2012 Draft out of Indiana University.
