Lefty Kerr expected to need Tommy John surgery
ST. LOUIS -- The Braves placed Ray Kerr on the 15-day injured list Monday with a left elbow UCL injury.
Manager Brian Snitker said he expects the 29-year-old left hander to undergo Tommy John surgery.
“It’s bad because he was getting a good opportunity here and he had impressed a lot of people,” Snitker said. “And he'll be back stronger than ever. I mean, that's the thing. Those guys, they get that tuneup like that, they end up, you know, extending their careers a lot of the time.”
Kerr was sent down to Triple-A Gwinnett on June 15. He complained about the elbow before making a pitch there.
His placement on the injured list is retroactive to June 16, and the club voided his option to Gwinnett.
Kerr appeared in 10 games, including two starts, for the Braves this season. He was 1-2 with a 5.64 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 22 1/3 innings.
