ARLINGTON -- The Rangers' catching situation underwent upheaval with the acquisition of Jonathan Lucroy from the Brewers on Monday.
To start with, Bobby Wilson and Bryan Holaday were designated for assignment as Lucroy comes in to be the No. 1 catcher.

"It's a little bittersweet," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. "That's the tough part of it. Somebody comes in, somebody has to go. Those guys did an unbelievable job. They are one of the reasons we are where we are in the standings."
Robinson Chirinos, who missed two months with a broken right forearm, also becomes the No. 2 catcher. He had been sharing the duties with Wilson while Holaday had been on the disabled list because of a bruised right thumb.

"It might help Robinson Chirinos by freshening him up," Daniels said. "He's banged up, had the broken arm and every foul tip the last few weeks seems to have found him. Robinson is still a real important part of our club."
With Wilson and Holaday, the Rangers have 10 days to trade, release or get them through waivers. Daniels said there is still a possibility the club could re-sign one of them to a Triple-A contract.
Daniels thrilled with day
Daniels is in his 11th season as general manager and has made some big deals in the month of July. But he said Monday was one of his most satisfying.

"It's up there," Daniels said. "Listen, we're around the team, these guys feel it. They're watching MLB Network, MLB Trade Rumors and Twitter. I walked through Kansas City the other day and I saw one of the younger guys looking at trade rumors -- I'm sure he saw his name there.
"For older guys, it's that time of year. They're looking for help. I think like anybody in the front office, if you have a chance to win, you want to help. We can't do much on a nightly basis …. At 7:05 [game time], we're out of the way, this is our chance to help." 
Rangers beat
• The Rangers have optioned infielder Joey Gallo back to Triple-A Round Rock. Gallo was 1-for-14 with a home run in five games since being recalled Tuesday.
• Prince Fielder, who is out for the season after undergoing neck surgery Friday, has been placed on the 60-day disabled list.
• Carlos Beltrán and Lucroy are expected to join the Rangers on Tuesday in Baltimore. Jeremy Jeffress is expected to report Wednesday, which will require the club to make a roster move.
