Rangers activate Diekman, DFA Ramos
KANSAS CITY -- The Rangers have designated pitcher César Ramos for assignment to make room for left-handed reliever Jake Diekman, who was activated off the disabled list.
Diekman had been sidelined since July 5 with a laceration on his left index finger. He threw a 30-pitch bullpen session on Wednesday in Anaheim and said he was ready to go. The lefty pitched a scoreless eighth inning in Friday night's 3-1 loss to the Royals.
At the time of the injury, Diekman had 39 appearances, which was tied for the seventh most in the American League. But he didn't see the time off as beneficial.
"I don't think so," Diekman said. "I like to be used a lot. It was kind of a freak thing, but I feel my arm is just as strong as before. This is the first legitimate time I've been held back from pitching, and it stinks. Just sitting here and not being able to participate stinks."
The Rangers have 10 days to trade, release or get Ramos through outright waivers. He made four starts for Texas and was 1-2 with a 4.95 ERA. Ramos also made 12 relief appearances and was 2-1 with a 6.83 ERA.
