The Phillies placed left-handed pitcher on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to July 24) with lower back soreness on Saturday. To fill his spot on the 26-man roster, left-handed pitcher Kolby Allard was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.

Suárez, 28, has posted a 2.87 ERA in 20 starts this season with a 1.06 WHIP and 116 strikeouts to 27 walks. He was named National League Pitcher of the Month for March/April and earned the first All-Star selection of his career. Suárez was the first Major League pitcher to reach 10 wins this season and his ERA is the third best in the NL.

A native of Pie de Cuesta, Venezuela, Suárez was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on April 1, 2012.
