35 in a row! Iglesias extends historic streak of perfection

ATLANTA -- has been better than good. The Braves' closer has been perfect for more than three weeks.

Iglesias worked his 11th consecutive perfect inning -- and 10th straight perfect outing -- to secure the Braves' 3-2 win over the Phillies on Thursday night at Truist Park. He became just the third pitcher in AL/NL history to make at least 10 consecutive perfect appearances of at least one inning each -- and the first to do so in more than 10 years.

Bobby Jenks made 13 consecutive perfect appearances for the White Sox in 2007. Koji Uehara completed 11 consecutive perfect appearances for the Red Sox in 2013.

Iglesias has tallied 13 strikeouts while retiring all 33 batters he's faced over those 10 outings. He stands with Uehara as the only pitchers in AL/NL history who have notched at least 13 strikeouts while not allowing a baserunner over any 10-game span.

An opponent hasn’t reached base against Iglesias since July 27, when Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo reached on a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth. Iglesias followed by striking out J.D. Martinez and Pete Alonso to seal a 4-0 win -- and he's retired all 33 batters he's faced in his 10 appearances since.

Including the final two batters from that July 27 outing, Iglesias’ streak of 35 consecutive batters retired is the longest by any Braves pitcher during the Expansion Era (since 1961), according to the Elias Sports Bureau. It's also the longest streak by any pitcher in the Majors since Yusmeiro Petit retired 46 straight batters over a span of eight outings for the Giants from July 22-Aug. 28, 2014.
