Rain washes out Braves-Mets series opener
NEW YORK -- Rain postponed the first game of a three-game series Tuesday between the Mets and Braves. The clubs will make up the game as part of a single-admission doubleheader on Sept. 25 at 4:10 p.m. ET.
Robert Gsellman will pitch Wednesday, opposite right-hander Julio Teheran.
Fans holding tickets to Tuesday's game may not use them for admission to the Sept. 25 doubleheader, but they can exchange them for tickets of comparable price and location. Otherwise, fans can exchange their tickets for another 2017 home game, excluding the Aug. 16-17 Subway Series matchups against the Yankees. Unused paid tickets can be exchanged either by mail or at the Citi Field box office.
The rainout comes at a good time strategically for the Mets, who are still without several injured players. Although manager Terry Collins penciled outfielder Yoenis Cespedes into his lineup following three days to rest his pulled hamstring, Collins said the wet conditions would likely have forced him to scratch Cespedes.
The postponement does, however, wipe out Wednesday's originally scheduled matchup of Syndergaard and Dickey, two of the seven players involved in the Mets' blockbuster 2012 trade with the Blue Jays.
