Wednesday's top prospect performers
Here’s a look at Wednesday's top prospect performers from Arizona Fall League and winter league action.
Cardinals: Jimmy Crooks, C (No. 15), Scottsdale Scorpions
Crooks had a breakout game for Scottsdale after a slow start in the Fall League. The 22-year-old singled in a run in the first inning and added his first extra-base hit, a two-RBI double, in the fourth. Crooks reached a third time on a walk, which raised his OPS 164 points.
Cubs: Alexander Canario, OF (No. 14), Aguilas Cibaenas
Canario has been lighting things up in the early going for the Cibaenas. The 23-year-old doubled twice during a three-hit night and has hit safely in all five Dominican Winter League games he has played. Canario made his Major League debut this season and produced a .941 OPS in six games.
Dodgers: Kendall Williams, RHP (Unranked), Glendale Desert Dogs
Baserunners? Williams hasn't heard of them. The 23-year-old right-hander strung up six strikeouts and allowed one hit over three scoreless frames for the Desert Dogs. Williams has a 17/2 K/BB ratio in 14 2/3 innings this fall and is limiting opposing batters to a .228 average.
Giants: Seth Lonsway, LHP (Unranked), Scottsdale Scorpions
The southpaw was close to untouchable -- and at the perfect time for Scottsdale. Entering the sixth inning with the bases loaded, Lonsway struck out Jakob Marsee on four pitches and whiffed two more in a clean seventh. The 25-year-old is up to 13 strikeouts in 10 Fall League innings.
Padres: Jakob Marsee, OF (No. 12), Peoria Javelinas
Another day, another big game at the plate for Marsee, who's up to eight multihit performances in 15 Fall League games. The 22-year-old picked up his seventh double among three hits and scored twice for Peoria. Marsee ranks fourth on the circuit with 23 hits and is slashing .390/.493/.644 with 11 stolen bases in as many attempts.
Phillies: Matt Kroon, 3B (Unranked), Scottsdale Scorpions
Kroon nearly outscored the opposition by himself, crossing the plate four times in Scottsdale's win. After getting hit by a pitch in the first and walking in the third, the 26-year-old singled in his next at-bat and drove in two runs with another knock in the seventh. In 300 Minor League games, Kroon has only scored four runs once -- on June 1, 2023, when he came home five times.
Rockies: Benny Montgomery, OF (No. 8), Salt River Rafters
Montgomery's imprint was all over the Rafters' win, on both sides of the ball. The 21-year-old reached base four times, including three walks, stole his seventh base and scored a run. The performance increased Montgomery's slash line to .362/.472/.534. Defensively, the Florida product threw out Nathan Hickey (BOS No. 15), who was trying to stretch a single into a double.
Tigers: Jace Jung, 3B (MLB No. 67), Salt River Rafters
The Tigers' No. 4 prospect finally got into the long ball column with his first Fall League tater in the sixth inning of the Rafters' win. He added two more RBIs with a double in the eighth. Jung's 28 home runs between High-A West Michigan and Double-A Erie this year were the second-most in the Tigers organization. More »
