Progressive Field getting new scoreboard

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The scoreboard at Progressive Field looms large over the left-field bleachers and was a state-of-the-art addition to the ballpark a little more than a decade ago. Time and technology changes, and Cleveland is taking a necessary step with one of the focal points of its home stadium.

On Monday, the Indians announced that a new, updated scoreboard is being installed at Progressive Field, replacing the board that was constructed in 2004. The new high-definition screen will measure 59 feet high and 221 feet wide, creating a display area of 13,000 square feet.

Other boards throughout the ballpark will also be upgraded as part of the team's ongoing renovations, which will also include a new club behind home plate, upgraded concessions and a new sound system. The scoreboards will provide greater access to statistics and scores around the league, among other features.

"The new boards will significantly enhance our fans' experience at Progressive Field," Neil Weiss, the Indians' senior vice president of technology and chief information officer, said in a release. "This project increases our ability to deliver a world-class in-game experience, delivering stats, highlights and player profiles in large, high-definition formats."

The new scoreboards are being manufactured and installed by Daktronics.

"We're proud to partner with the Cleveland Indians to provide Progressive Field with a premier, high-definition video display system," Daktronics CEO Reece Kurtenbach said in a release. "As venues hosting live sporting events continue to strive to improve fan entertainment, Daktronics continues to provide industry-leading technology to stay in front of these trends. This installation will deliver an impressive and memorable game-day experience for Indians fans in 2016."
