White Sox decline 2025 club options on Yoán Moncada and Max Stassi
CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have declined the $25-million club option on third baseman Yoán Moncada ($5-million buyout) and the $7.5-million club option on catcher Max Stassi ($500,000 buyout) for the 2025 season. Both players become free agents.
Moncada, 29, was limited to 12 games in 2024 due to a left adductor strain, batting .275 (11-40). He was acquired from Boston on December 6, 2016 as part of a five-player deal that included right-handed pitcher Michael Kopech and left-hander Chris Sale.
Stassi, 33, began the season on the 10-day injured list with left hip inflammation. He played in five games with Class AAA Charlotte on an injury rehabilitation assignment before being returned from the assignment on April 10 and transferred to the 60-day injured list on April 15. Stassi, who was acquired from Atlanta on December 9, 2023, underwent season-ending hip surgery on June 7.
Following the moves, the Sox 40-man roster decreases to 37.
