Twins Reinstate Brooks Lee, Select Contracts Of Diego Castillo And Michael Helman

Manny Margot placed on 10-day Injured List

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have returned infielder Brooks Lee from his rehab assignment and reinstated him from the 10-day Injured List. Additionally, the Twins have selected the contracts of right-handed pitcher Diego Castillo and utility player Michael Helman from Triple-A St. Paul.

Lee, who missed the Twins’ last 22 games with right bicep tendinitis, appeared in five games on rehab assignment with the Saints, hitting .211 (4-for-19) with two doubles, one home run, four RBI, one walk and two runs scored. Prior to going on the IL, he hit .253 (25-for-99) with two doubles, two home runs, 15 RBI, nine walks, eight runs scored and a .642 OPS in 26 games for the Twins between July 3-August 7.

Castillo will be making his second stint with Minnesota this season, after posting a 2.57 ERA (7.0 IP, 2 ER) with seven walks and three strikeouts in five games between May 29-June 10. He has also gone 0-4 with a 4.73 ERA (32.1 IP, 17 ER), 21 walks, 38 strikeouts and eight saves in 35 games for St. Paul this season.

Helman, 28, has hit .283 (68-for-240) with 15 doubles, 13 home runs, 43 RBI, 27 walks, 45 runs scored, 10 stolen bases and an .875 OPS in 63 games for the Saints this season. He made at least one start at five different defensive positions with St. Paul including one start at second base, 10 starts at third base, 28 starts at shortstop, four starts in leftfield and 17 starts in centerfield. The Lincoln, NE native was originally selected by the Twins in the 11th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of Texas A&M University and has hit .261 (452-for-1730) with 89 doubles, 12 triples, 66 home runs, 247 RBI, 176 walks, 92 stolen bases, 302 runs scored and a .776 OPS in 468 career minor league games. He will wear uniform number 92 and is looking to make his major league debut.

To make room on the 26-man roster, the Twins have placed outfielder Manny Margot on the 10-day Injured List with a right groin strain. Margot, who sustained the injury last night against Toronto, has hit .250 (70-for-280) with 14 doubles, one triple, four home runs, 30 RBI, 19 walks, five stolen bases and a .652 OPS in 116 games for Minnesota this season.

To make room for Castillo and Helman on the 40-man roster, the Twins have transferred right-handed pitcher Chris Paddack (right forearm strain) to the 60-day Injured List and designated right-handed pitcher Caleb Boushley for release or assignment.
