Teams announced for the “Desert Invitational” and “Andre Dawson Classic,” MLB-hosted collegiate baseball tournaments
Annual Round-Robin Style Tournaments Each Will Host Eight Division-I Teams in Arizona and Florida in February; MLB Network to Air Five LIVE Matchups Across Both Tournaments; All Games Will Stream on MLB.com
Major League Baseball today announced the teams who will compete in the 2025 MLB Desert Invitational and the Andre Dawson Classic. Each collegiate baseball tournament will feature eight Division-I universities and will be held in February to celebrate the start of the nationwide start of the college baseball season.
The MLB Desert Invitational is MLB’s annual Arizona-based tournament will be hosted February 14th-16th throughout the greater Phoenix area across three locations – (1) Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, (2) Sloan Park, and (3) Grand Canyon University.
The Andre Dawson Classic, which serves as MLB’s annual collegiate baseball tournament highlighting Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and their baseball programs, will be hosted the following weekend, February 21st – 23rd at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Florida.
Both tournaments will take place in a round-robin format and all games will air live on MLB.com, while MLB Network will exclusively air three matchups from the Desert Invitational and two from the Andre Dawson Classic.
The Desert Invitational and Andre Dawson Classic will feature some of the most outstanding baseball programs in the nation. The participating teams and game schedules include the following:
Desert Invitational:
- Austin Peay State University (Clarksville, TN) – 1st appearance
- University of Nebraska (Lincoln, NE) – 1st appearance
- University of New Mexico (Albuquerque, NM) – 1st appearance
- Grand Canyon University (Phoenix, AZ) – 3rd appearance
- San Diego State University (San Diego, CA) – 2nd appearance
- Seton Hall University (South Orange, NJ) – 1st appearance
- University of California, Irvine (Irvine, CA) – 1st appearance
- Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN) – 3rd appearance

- Alabama A&M University (Huntsville, AL) – 2nd appearance

- Jackson State University (Jackson, MS) – 3rd appearance
- Prairie View A&M University (Prairie View, TX) – 10th appearance

Historically, the MLB Desert Invitational has featured 2024 National Champion University of Tennessee, Vanderbilt University, University of Michigan, Texas Christian University, California Polytechnic State University (San Luis Obispo), University of Connecticut, University of Virginia, California State University (Fullerton), Michigan State University, and the University of Arizona, among others. For the first time ever, the Andre Dawson Classic will feature a Southeastern Conference (SEC) school in the University of Missouri, a team which is coached by former Southern University Head Coach Kerrick Jackson. The annual tournament, now in its 17th year, relocated to the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in 2024, the former Spring Training Home of the Los Angeles/Brooklyn Dodgers, and currently the central hub for all MLB-led baseball & softball development programming.
