Red Sox announce roster moves

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:

  • Reinstated catcher Connor Wong from the Paternity Leave List.
  • Optioned catcher Tyler Heineman and right-handed pitcher Isaiah Campbell to Triple-A Worcester following last night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Wong, 28, has batted .330 (66-for-200) with 26 runs scored, seven home runs, and an .870 OPS in 57 games this season, leading Major League catchers in batting average (min. 100 PA). The right-handed hitter has played in 216 Major League games, all with the Red Sox (2021-24), batting .263 (166-for-632) with 36 doubles, 17 home runs, and 73 RBI. A Texas native, he was originally selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft.

Heineman, 33, has played in two Major League games this season, most recently entering Monday’s game against the Blue Jays as the catcher in the eighth inning. In 30 games with Worcester, the switch-hitter has batted .242 (23-for-95) with 15 runs scored, three doubles, two home runs, and 13 RBI. Originally selected by the Houston Astros in the eighth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has batted .216 (54-for-250) in 106 career Major League games with the Miami Marlins (2019), San Francisco Giants (2020), Toronto Blue Jays (2022-23), Pittsburgh Pirates (2022-23), and Red Sox (2024).

Campbell, 26, has pitched in eight Major League games this season, allowing one run in his first five outings (4.1 IP) and 12 runs (11 earned) in his last three (2.1 IP). The right-hander also owns a 2.19 ERA (3 ER/12.1 IP) with 18 strikeouts and three walks in 11 games with Worcester. Originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in Competitive Balance Round B of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the University of Arkansas product has posted a 5.35 ERA (21 ER/35.1 IP) in 35 career Major League outings with Seattle (2023) and Boston (2024).
