Rays acquire right-handed pitcher Eric Orze in exchange for outfielder Jose Siri
The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired RHP Eric Orze from the New York Mets in exchange for OF Jose Siri.
Orze, 27, made his major league debut last season, making two relief appearances for the Mets. In 43 relief outings for Triple-A Syracuse, he went 6-1 with a 2.92 ERA (61.2IP, 20ER), three saves and 84 strikeouts.
In 150 career minor league appearances, he is 17-10 with a 4.04 ERA (222.2IP, 100ER), nine saves and 301 strikeouts. Orze was selected by the Mets in the fifth round of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of New Orleans.
Siri, 29, hit .187/.255/.366 (75-for-402) with 16 doubles, one triple, 18 home runs and 47 RBI over a career-high 130 games last season. He led the Rays with 12 game-winning RBI and ranked second among MLB outfielders with 17 outs above average.
Over 287 games with Tampa Bay from 2022-24, Siri slashed .210/.266/.414 (190-for-906) with 38 doubles, three triples, 47 home runs, 117 RBI and 34 stolen bases. He was acquired from Houston on August 1, 2022 as part of a three-team, five-player trade involving Baltimore.
