Baltimore, Md. — The Texas Rangers today announced the following roster moves prior to Sunday night’s series finale against the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Yards:

  • INF Jonathan Ornelas (#21) recalled from Triple-A Round Rock.
  • LHP Brock Burke optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.

Ornelas, 24, will be in his second stint with the Rangers this season (also May 6-7), as he went 0-for-1 in his lone appearance of the campaign in Game 1 of a doubleheader on May 7 at Oakland. The right-handed batter and thrower has spent the balance of the 2024 season with Round Rock (AAA) where he is batting .249 (57-229) with 3 home runs, 3 triples, 8 doubles, 22 RBI, and 7 stolen bases over 62 games/60 starts (37-SS, 15-2B, 4-3B, 2-CF, 2-LF).

A Glendale, Ariz. native, Ornelas has seen Major League action for Texas in each of the last two seasons (2023-24), going 1-for-8 (.125) with 2 runs scored across 8 appearances/2 starts (both at third base). He has spent the entirety of his seven-year professional career in the Rangers organization after being selected by the club in 3rd round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of Raymond S. Kellis High School.

Burke, 27, has posted no record and a 7.45 ERA (8 ER/9.2 IP) over 10 relief appearances spanning two stints with the Rangers this season: Opening Day-April 12 & June 12-29. He most recently appeared in last night’s game, allowing one run (earned) with one walk over 1.1 IP. The left-hander missed 52 games while on the Injured List (right hand fracture) April 13-June 11.

With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with seven players on the 60-day Injured List: Cody Bradford, Carson Coleman, Jacob deGrom, Josh Jung, Tyler Mahle, Austin Pruitt, Cole Winn.
