Rangers acquire LHP Mason Molina from Milwaukee Brewersin exchange for RHP Grant Anderson
Molina was drafted and made professional debut in 2024
Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has acquired left-handed pitcher Mason Molina from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for right-handed pitcher Grant Anderson.
Molina, 21, made his professional debut with Low-A Carolina last season after being selected in the 7th round of the 2024 MLB Draft by Milwaukee from the University of Arkansas, tossing 5.0 shutout innings with 6 strikeouts across 2 starts for the Mudcats. The southpaw also registered two relief appearances during the 2024 MiLB postseason, pitching once for Carolina and once for High-A Wisconsin. A native of Irvine, Calif., he went 12-9 with a 3.97 ERA (88 ER/199.1 IP) and 260 strikeouts in 51 games/38 starts over 3 collegiate seasons with Texas Tech (2022-23) and Arkansas (2024). Molina earned the start in Arkansas’ 2024 postseason opener vs. Southeast Missouri State and also twirled 5.0 no-hit innings with 10 strikeouts vs. Michigan in the Kubota College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field last February.
Anderson, 27, was designated for assignment by Texas when the club formally signed designated hitter/outfielder Joc Pederson on Monday, December 30. He logged an 8.10 ERA (24 ER/26.2 IP) over 23 relief appearances for Texas in 2024, his second Major League campaign after making his MLB debut with the Rangers in 2023. The Port Arthur, Texas native, who was acquired by the Rangers in a 2019 trade with Seattle, was a former 21st-round selection in the 2018 MLB Draft from McNeese State.
Molina has been assigned to the High-A Hub City roster. Molina is not on the Major League roster, which remains at the 40-man limit.
