Pirates Announce Hiring Of Matt Hague As Major League Hitting Coach
The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced the hiring of Matt Hague as the organization’s new Major League Hitting Coach.
Hague spent the 2024 season as an Assistant Hitting Coach for the Toronto Blue Jays prior to being named Pittsburgh’s Hitting Coach. Hague began his association with the Blue Jays organization in 2019 while spending 2021-23 working as a Hitting Coach at the Double- and Triple-A levels. The 39-year-old Hague is highly regarded among players and coaches for his ability to effectively communicate and embrace modern training methods in his work with players.
Hague returns to the Pirates organization after originally being selected by the organization in the ninth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.
“We’re very excited to add Matt to our group as he adds a blend of both playing and coaching experience combined with really strong relationships,” said Pirates Manager Derek Shelton. “The feedback we got from players he’s worked with previously has been outstanding. We look forward to him leading our hitting team moving forward.”
