Prior to tonight’s game against the Washington Nationals, the Phillies selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Tyler Gilbert from triple-A Lehigh Valley. To make room for him on the 26-man roster, right-handed pitcher Tyler Phillips was optioned to Lehigh Valley and to make room for him on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Spencer Turnbull was transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Gilbert, 30, began the season with triple-A Louisville in the Cincinnati Reds organization. After being acquired by the Phillies in a minor league trade with Cincinnati on May 7, he made 27 relief appearances with Lehigh Valley and has gone 4-0 with a 2.06 ERA (8 ER, 35.0 IP) with 48 strikeouts to six walks, while posting a 1.03 WHIP (30 hits) and converting all seven of his save opportunities. Gilbert made 28 appearances (13 starts) for the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2021-23, including a complete-game shutout, and overall had a 4.32 ERA (44 ER, 91.2 IP). Gilbert will wear No. 40.

The Santa Cruz, Calif., native was originally selected by the Phillies in the sixth round of the 2015 MLB Draft.

Phillips, 26, went 4-1 with a 5.50 ERA (22 ER, 36.0 IP), 27 strikeouts and seven walks in seven games (six starts) with the Phillies after having his contract selected on July 5. Originally selected by the Texas Rangers in the 16^th round of the 2015 MLB Draft, Phillips was claimed off waivers by the Phillies on July 24, 2021, and attended major league spring training as a non-roster invitee this year.
