Prior to tonight’s game against the Atlanta Braves, the Phillies recalled right-handed pitcher Yunior Marte from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. To make room for him on the 26-man roster, right-handed pitcher Michael Mercado was optioned to Lehigh Valley.

Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.

Marte, 29, returns to the Phillies for his fourth stint with the club this season. He has made 22 major league relief appearances this year (24.0 IP) and across his last seven outings with the IronPigs since June 20, Marte has pitched to a 1.29 ERA (1 ER, 7.0 IP).

A native of Santo Domingo, D.R., Marte was originally signed by the Kansas City Royals as an amateur free agent on July 19, 2012. He was acquired by the Phillies from the San Francisco Giants on Jan. 8, 2023.

Mercado, 25, threw 1.1 innings in relief for the Phillies yesterday against the Houston Astros after being recalled on Monday, his fifth appearance for the Phillies this season. He made his major league debut on June 24 and earned the win in his first career start on July 2.

Mercado was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the second round of the 2017 MLB Draft and was acquired by the Phillies from the Rays in exchange for right-handed pitcher Adam Leverett and cash considerations on Nov. 6, 2023.
