Phillies and Toyota to host a special tribute to remember 9/11 and honor veterans multi-service center on ‘First Responders Night’

Plus, players to wear a 9/11 commemorative ribbon patch in remembrance of that tragic day

WHAT: On Wednesday, September 11, the Phillies and Toyota will join Major League Baseball to once again pause and remember those who lost their lives and pay tribute to the men and women who continue to bravely serve our communities and country.

The lineup of events at that night’s Phillies-Rays game begins at 6:15 p.m. with an on-field tribute that includes a moment of silence, and commemorative lineup cards and base jewels. Players will also wear 9/11 ribbon patches on their New Era caps.

  • Highlights include a Philadelphia Police Department Honor Guard and presentation of the 50 state flags.
  • The National Anthem will be performed by the United States Army Herald Trumpets.
  • The Phillies and Toyota will also recognize the tremendous efforts of the Veterans Multi-Service Center, which provides much-needed services, programs, opportunity and advancement to veterans of the U.S military and their families.

United States Navy veteran & Veterans Multi-Service Center board treasurer Stever Phillabaum will be presented with a $5,000 donation on behalf of Toyota by Jackie Cuddeback, Phillies Senior Vice President, Partnership Sales, Suites Sales and Corporate Marketing. In addition, Phillabaum will have the honor of changing a ceremonial base at the end of the third inning as the Hometown Hero courtesy of Toyota

Jim Davie, United States Marine Corps Veteran and Veterans Multi-Service Center Board Vice President, will have the honor of throwing a ceremonial first pitch. Davie was also a member of the Force Reconnaissance Company, Special Operation and a Squad Leader for two tours of duty in Iraq, where he suffered life-threatening injuries.

  • “God Bless America” will be performed by a trumpeter quintet from the United States Army Herald during the 7th inning stretch.
