Garrett Crochet named to first American League All-star team

CHICAGO – Chicago White Sox left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet has been selected by the players as an American League reserve at the 2024 All-Star Game to be played on July 16 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Crochet, 25, is 6-6 with a 3.08 ERA (36 ER/105.1 IP), 23 walks, 146 strikeouts (12.47 per 9.0 IP) and a 0.97 WHIP over 19 starts this season, his first as a starter in the major leagues. Entering today’s games, he leads MLB in strikeouts, strikeout percentage (.348) and strikeouts per 9.0 IP and ranks among the leaders in WHIP (5th), strikeout-to-walk ratio (6th, 6.35) and opponents average (7th, .203).

Some notable information regarding Crochet’s season to date and his first career All-Star selection:

  • Has joined RHP Jack McDowell (1991-93), LHP Chris Sale (2012-16) and LHP Carlos Rodón (2021) as pitchers selected by the White Sox in the first round to make the All-Star Team;
  • Is the first Sox starting pitcher to make the team since RHP Lance Lynn and Rodón in 2021 and first since Sale in 2012 to be selected in his first full season as a starter;

  • Has allowed three runs or less in 13 straight starts since 4/29 (four scoreless), the longest streak by a Sox pitcher since Mark Buehrle went 18 in a row from 4/27-8/11/11;
  • Was named AL Pitcher of the Month for June after going 1-1 with a 1.91 ERA (8 ER/37.2 IP), six walks and 56 strikeouts over six starts in June … became the first Sox pitcher to receive the award since Cease in June and July 2022;
  • Threw 24.0 consecutive scoreless IP from 5/4-27, the longest streak by a Sox pitcher in a single season since Jesse Crain (29.0) in 2013.
