Dodgers select Justin Wrobleski

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Justin Wrobleski and optioned right-handed pitcher Gus Varland.

Wrobleski, 23, will make his Major League debut this afternoon. He started the season with Double-A Tulsa, making 13 starts and going 5-2 with a 3.06 ERA. He was promoted to Triple-A on June 22 and made two starts for Oklahoma City, striking out 17 in 11.1 innings with a 4.34 ERA. In three minor league seasons with the Dodgers, he is 10-10 with a 3.03 ERA in 53 games (48 starts) and 214 strikeouts in 202 innings. He was drafted by the Dodgers in the 11th round of the 2021 First Year Player Draft out of Oklahoma State University.

Varland, 27, did not make an appearance in his two-day stint with the club. He is 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA in seven games for the Dodgers this season. He is in his second Major League season and is a combined 1-1 with a 5.81 ERA with 23 strikeouts in 26.1 innings. In Triple-A Oklahoma City, he has appeared in 27 games, allowing 23 runs in 27.2 innings. He was originally drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 14th round of the 2018 First Year Player Draft out of Concordia-St. Paul University.
