HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros player development department has named RHP Jose Fleury the Astros upper-level Minor League Pitcher of the Month for August and C César Salazar the Astros upper-level Minor League Player of the Month for August. The Astros also named OF Kenni Gomez the Astros lower-level Minor League Player of the Month for August and RHP Nic Swanson the Astros lower-level Pitcher of the Month for August.

Fleury, 22, went 1-0 with a 2.86 ERA (7ER/22IP) in five appearances, including three starts for Double A Corpus Christi. Fleury also recorded 30 strikeouts, a 0.86 WHIP and a .163 opponent batting average during August. For the season, Fleury has posted a 3.79 ERA (25ER/59.1IP) with 63 strikeouts, a 1.10 WHIP and a .206 opponent batting average in 16 games, including 10 starts. The 22-year-old was signed by the Astros as a non-drafted free agent on December 6, 2021, from La Vega, Dominican Republic. Fleury is rated as the Astros number 10 overall prospect by MLB.com.

Salazar, 28, batted .263 (15x57) with seven runs, one double, one home run, 10 RBI, 11 walks and a .733 OPS in 18 games in August with Triple A Sugar Land. In the minors this season, Salazar hit .263 (63x240) with 36 runs, 13 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 49 RBI, 41 walks and a .807 OPS in 71 games. The 28-year-old was selected by the Astros in the seventh round of the 2018 MLB First-Year Player Draft from the University of Arizona. Salazar was recalled to the Major League roster on Sunday.

Gomez, 19, batted .348 (32x92) with 17 runs, five doubles, one triple, two home runs, 10 RBI, nine stolen bases and a .864 OPS in 22 games in August between Low A Fayetteville and High A Asheville. This season Gomez is batting .273 (108x395) with 56 runs, 25 doubles, five triples, seven home runs, 42 RBI, 20 stolen bases and a .755 OPS in 103 games. Gomez was signed by the Astros as a non-drafted free agent on Jan. 15, 2022, from Bayamo, Cuba. Gomez is rated as the Astros number 20 overall prospect by MLB.com.

Swanson, 25, went 0-2 with a 2.95 ERA (7ER/21.1IP) in six appearances, including five starts for High A Asheville. For the season, Swanson has recorded a 5.03 ERA (57ER/102IP) with 108 strikeouts, a 1.35 WHIP and a .239 opponent batting average in 24 games, including 23 starts. In the South Atlantic League, Swanson ranks third in opponent batting average, fourth in WHIP, tied for sixth in strikeouts and seventh in innings.
