Anthony Gose promoted from AAA Columbus

CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Guardians today announced the following transactions relative to the Major League and 40-man rosters:

Selected the contract of LHP Anthony Gose (#26, /goes/) from AAA Columbus.

Optioned LHP Logan Allen to AAA Columbus after yesterday’s game.

Designated RHP Xzavion Curry for assignment.

Gose, 33, went 5-4 with a 3.29 ERA (14ER/38.1IP), 55 strikeouts, a 1.30 WHIP and a .197 (27-for-137) opponent average in 35 appearances (all relief) with AAA Columbus this year, leading the Clippers with 10 saves. The 6-0 southpaw ranks 1st in the International League with 6 saves since July 1, registering a 1.64 ERA (2ER/11.0IP) with 17 strikeouts across 10 games in that span. After converting from outfield to pitching in 2017, Gose signed as a free agent with Cleveland in December of 2018, ascending through the club’s Player Development System before making 28 relief appearances for the Guardians from 2021-22, going 3-0 with a 3.90 ERA (12ER/27.2IP) and 37 strikeouts. The Bellflower, California native missed the entire 2023 season following a left elbow strain and subsequent surgery in 2022.

Originally drafted by Philadelphia in the 2nd round (51st overall) of the 2008 MLB Draft, Gose made his MLB debut in right field for Toronto in 2012, playing parts of 5 seasons with the Blue Jays (2012-14) and the Detroit Tigers (2015-16) and posting a .240 (271-for-1,128) career batting average. He made his first professional pitching appearance with Detroit’s Advanced-A affiliate in 2017 and has garnered 177 strikeouts in 137.0 career MiLB innings (11.63 SO/9.0IP) over 134 appearances (1 start).
