A’s select RHP Ginn From Las Vegas; place LHP Alexander on IL

OAKLAND, Calif. — The Oakland A’s have selected right-handed pitcher J.T. Ginn from Triple-A Las Vegas and placed left-handed pitcher Scott Alexander on the 15-day injured list with left rotator cuff tendonitis, retroactive to Aug. 18, the club announced today. Ginn will be making his Major League debut.

Ginn, 25, was acquired by the A’s on March 12, 2022, from the New York Mets along with Adam Oller in exchange for Chris Bassitt. Originally drafted by the Mets in the second round of the 2020 draft, Ginn began the 2024 season with Double-A Midland where he went 4-1 with a 4.15 ERA in six starts spanning 30.1 innings before being promoted to Triple-A on May 8. In 15 outings with the Aviators, he is 4-3 with a 5.72 ERA, 69 strikeouts, and 30 walks in 72.1 innings of work. Over his minor league career, he has a 4.68 ERA with 241 strikeouts and 92 walks in 263.2 innings pitched. In his last two outings for Las Vegas, both starts, he went 2-0 and allowed just two runs in 12.0 innings with nine strikeouts and just two walks.

Alexander began the year on the IL with a left rib bone contusion and made his 2024 debut in May. In 34 games with the A’s this season, he is 1-2 with a 2.51 ERA, 20 strikeouts, and 10 walks in 28.2 innings pitched including a .375 opponents OPS against left-handed hitters.
